Staffing


The Language Unit is staffed by qualified teachers, Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) and a Speech Therapist.


Mrs Carrie Neale is the Language Unit Manager. She has the day-to-day responsibility for the management and organisation of the Unit.   She leads a team that includes a part-time Unit teacher who works two days a week , mainly with the older children.

Mrs Yvonne Paris is the Speech and Language Therapist. She provides five sessions of therapy a week for the Language Unit.


The Unit is also supported by an attached Educational Psychologist who visits the Unit termly to review the children's progress and placement.

The children are supported by a dedicated team of five qualified SNAs. They have all received additional training in the areas of speech and language difficulties. They all have the City and Guilds Certificate in Learning Support as a basis and go onto further training as required such as the Derbyshire Language Scheme. Regular training is undertaken with staff from other Units and there are opportunities for school based INSET provided by the Speech therapist and Language Unit Manager.
