Vigo Infant and Junior Schools Vigo Infant and Junior Schools are situated a mile from Andover Town Centre on a campus with five other schools; Winton Secondary, Mark Way Special Secondary and Norman Gate Primary Special Schools. Vigo Infant School Headteacher : Mrs Carolyn Evans Vigo Infant School is a three form entry school with approximately 250 children on role. There are nine classes staffed by a teacher and SNA. The Language Unit has been operating within the school for the past five years. During this time the staff have become skilled in teaching children with a wide range of speech and language difficulties alongside their mainstream peers. The school provides many opportunities to extend and enhance the children's learning. There is an annual Focus Week where visitors such as artists, musicians and dancers come to school to work with the children. All the work is then shared with parents at an Open Evening. There are very good home/school links and parents are welcome to come into school and support their children. There are well established links between the Infant school and the Juniors. The staff share training sessions during the year and meet regularly to ensure that the transition between the school is smooth. Vigo Junior School Headteacher : Mr Bernard Whitfield The school opened in 1965, for children of all abilities between the ages of 7 and 11, and is situated on a five school campus. It is maintained by H.C.C. and is a non-denominational school. From September 2000 the Key Stage 2 provision of Vigo Language Unit will be operating in the school. Close links are established with both Vigo Infant School and Winton Comprehensive to facilitate the smooth transfer of children between schools and ensure continuity in the children's education. Parents are always welcome to come into school, and are encouraged to play an active role in supporting the school in the education of their children. |
